Journalists are again asking me for comments on university fundraising ethics since courts have published new information on Jeffrey Epstein.

The good news is that a group of social scientists published a systematic study of US fundraisers' views on tainted money, the prevalence of policies on the topic, and how that compares to views from the general public.

Their research offers a much more informed view than anything I could say:

How many times in your career do you get to publish a heading like "Fewer cookies from an evil puppet" ?

In a paper in Cognition, Tasimi & Wynn found that even 1 year olds prefer a cookie from a good puppet over 2 cookies from an evil one.

But on average, even 1 year olds have a reservation point — offer enough cookies and they'll say yes to the evil puppet.
