@jdp23 true. But it's light years ahead of what we've had for the past two decades!
For me, being able to move follows/followers has been really useful.

@rwg Graph portability is really useful. The lack of content portability is a major oversight, though, and it's hard to understand how those shaping the project can have understood the need for and significance of one without understanding the need or significance of the other.
Actually just today I've been thinking about how beyond within-project portability of both social graph and content, what's really needed for a healthy #fediverse is cross-project portability of both.
@rwg Not for the whole #Fediverse, afaik. It might be for moving content between #Pixelfed instances, and they do have a function to import content from Instagram. Some other projects have the ability to port content between their own instances. But as long as that's limited to within a given project, people can't respond to issues with project direction or functionality by choosing to switch between Fediverse platforms. It's not trivial to move from #Mastodon to #Sharkey, for example. @jdp23
@tokyo_0 @jdp23 isn’t #Pixelfed implementing content portability now?
@rwg I just found this post (https://mastodon.social/@box464/111667625124586163) that suggests Sharkey has built in an import function from the Mastodon export, so edited my earlier post - some projects have started to build in content portability functionality, but it's the exception rather than the rule, and often you can move from Mastodon to a project that's new and actively maintained but that doesn't mean you'll be able to move back again. It's not something people can rely on, when it should be the norm.) @jdp23
