I got home from a matinee showing of Godzilla Minus One. It's a really solid action/pressure cooker drama which also has a giant monster walking/stumbling/blasting its way through Japan. Despite its fantastical setup, it's played dead serious, and it manages to be a very affecting story with a lot of focus on the main character's PTSD, survivor's guilt, alienation, and other mental issues. It was also a good period drama and some of the horror and devastation of WWII was shown, such as the aftermath of the firebombing of Tokyo.
I'm very fortunate to have been able to see it in the theatre, and I plan to see it again (this time in black and white) when I have the opportunity.
Final rating: definitely worth seeing in the theatre, and if you're a fan of giant monster movies, you should see the movie right away.
One last thing: this looks amazing for a film made on a $15 million budget. It blows away many capesh-- movies that are made for much, much more.
