   That musical number before the fireworks was absolutely appalling. Angry and disrespectful IMO. The stuff projected on the bridge is just as bad.

     @ned "there was some Aboriginal thing, but I didn't watch that. I saw the fireworks and that's all I wanted to see so I switched it off" my mother's review of the 9am ABC show. Her preview was "the ABC is my least favourite channel"

     @DanV @baronessloveandlight it was basically a bunch of propoganda saying aboriginals are all victims like George Floyd. Whites are implicitly evil. Everything aboriginals want should be given to them. And it's appropriate to take up the mantle of 'warrior' to fight 'oppressors', thereby justifying violent action.

     It doesn't celebrate Aboriginal culture, it weaponises it. Not exactly appropriate for an end of year celebration.

     @baronessloveandlight @ned The pylon of the bridge rotated between I assume people who died (because Archie Roach was on it, the only name I knew). On a red yellow an black background. Only abo's on the list. All the fireworks were red and yellow

     @DanV @baronessloveandlight If I was to steelman the other perspective I guess the goal was to recognise aboriginals that have been fighting for justice, or equality or whatever. In an effort to make their voices heard.

     Problem is there nothing more insulting than pandering to a group and saying their concerns are valid, whilst simultaneously ignoring them. And secondly, focusing on those themes is necessarily divisive, no matter how well intentioned.

     @ned @DanV Stan Grant spoke at a work do about 5 yrs ago, his speech was about the media focussing on progress e.g. more indigenous people graduating high school and unit than ever before etc etc. but celebrating is bad, terrorising is good

     My issue is that "inclusion" excludes everyone else.
     Even if they had the Abo flag behind Archie Roach and Aunty Whoever but also memorialized whoever white, brown, yellow or green with something other behind that would have been ok to me.
     But to exclude the John and Sally, Mohammed and Saadia, Qian and Wei and Rakesh or Arya and whoever else died is horribly fucking racist.
