     @harishpillay I’m in a pedantic nitpicking mood right now. So let me say that use of the word “hill” is redundant when you are referring to *Bukit* Timah. 🏃🏽

     There’s Timor Barat so there’s some logic to East Timor.

     Btw, my kids had a difficult time figuring out why a state in India’s east is called West Bengal.

     @nitin while I wholeheartedly agree at the redundancy, we have to somewhat tolerate the silliness. Consider East Timor. Timor means east in Malay/Indonesian. Yet it is Easy Timor. Does not help that they changed it to Timor Leste which is "east east". Oh well.

     @harishpillay Well it is “West” Bengal, but happens to be East India.

     (PS. There’s no East Virginia in the US).

     @nitin Hmm. I did not think of it that way because I knew that present day Bangladesh was also known as East Bengal and later as East Pakistan, so, yes, it is a misnomer to continue with West Bengal and adds confusion.
