   @rberger the fact it is science fiction is me thinks mostly incidental.

   Sociopaths could pick motivation and justification for their dystopic view of society from any fiction or non-fiction genre and did so in the past. Nietsche, Ayn Rand etc.

   In fact science fiction includes very deep human-centric and empathy rich pieces. People pick and choose. Choices have consequences.
