@Ten So, first off, I delayed transition for about 15 years because I had to wait for nonbinary identities to be taken seriously at least in mainstream queer circles. But the second reason I didn't push harder for recognition and a transition was because for most of my life the only trans people I knew of were so serious about transition that they begged the medical establishment for a long time and committed to a complete binary transition. I wasn't "like that" so I couldn't be trans.

The biggest misconception I personally experienced was that it was impossibly expensive to transition. I put off hormones for nearly ten years because I thought I could never afford to do it. Even without insurance, it's much less expensive than I thought.
