I think it's fine to have instances that block threads, and ones that don't. That way, if you are worried about getting harassed, just join an instance with stricter policies. But you shouldn't push for all instances to block threads.

Also I don't like the idea that horrid people won't follow other horrid people by blocking threads. They can create threads accounts themselves to spread hate.

This is an opportunity to connect Mastodon to general social media, one we shouldn't waste
