   I honestly don't understand the hostility some FOSS developers have towards gamers in general.

   Sure, there are toxic gamers, but there are also toxic users of your random FOSS app.

   If it wouldn't be for wine/proton, the Linux desktop would probably be dead already. I certainly wouldn't have become a linux developer if playing random windows games on Linux wouldn't have been possible.

   And I'd wish that toxicity against gamers and gaming related companies to stop.

     @karolherbst Gamers™ (as in the self-titled ones to a point of nearly defining it as personality trait, not like players) are a special kind of toxic though.
     
     FOSS devs don't throw gamers under the bus for no reason, they're pretty much the only ones with a rather consistent bad attitude such as massive entitlement and treating anything that doesn't goes their way as complete crap.
     So a negative reaction to anything close to gamers ends up happening, and you don't fix that via telling FOSS devs that they're wrong.

     @karolherbst FOSS is bad for internet drama and flame wars. However I think gamer culture is particularly toxic because the videogame publishers manufacture a toxic culture to increase brand loyalty.

     IMO what you are describing is two uniquely toxic cultures colliding.
