   for a couple weeks now I've seen people mentioning https://phanpy.social and I've thought to myself, hey that looks neat, I should try it, but then when I get to my laptop and get a chance to give it a try, I've already forgotten what it's called, because "phanpy" is a name that drips right thru my brain's attempts to retain it

   anyway, it's cool; much better than the default masto UI, and maybe better than pinafore in some ways?

   but pinafore works with gotosocial and phanpy doesn't, so I probably won't stick with it until they fix whatever bugs are causing that

     having all favs/boosts collapsed together in your notifications is either a huge game changer feature (if I've recently made a post which is Doing the Rounds and making my normal notifications a mess) or a "oh, that's kind of nice I guess" feature (normally)

     @ieure huh, I haven't noticed much of a difference here

     I'm on a 2016-gen thinkpad with debian stable's firefox using 6GB and it's ... a little slower than pinafore, but barely noticeably

     wonder what's going on; maybe some arm-specific pathological case?

     @technomancy Man, gave this a whirl but it is *dog* slow. I'm typing this on an M1 MacBook Pro with 64gb of RAM and I'm typing faster than the window can insert the characters. What the hell

     @ieure semaphore/pinafore can show you your bookmarks, they just hide them in the "community" tab for some reason

     also not a fan of the blur effects nor the windowed paradigm, but I'm going to stick with it a little longer because the notif-collapse thing is really good

     if I didn't hate frontend work I'd be super tempted to take a shot at implementing notif-collapse on semaphore... I'd be up for sponsoring that work if anyone were to offer

     @technomancy Not sure. I'm on LibreWolf, which performs fine otherwise. Semaphore (the updated Pinafore fork) is very fast. Phanpy is.. full of blur effects I don't like & can't disable and unusably slow.

     Looks nice, though, and it supports *showing* bookmarks, which Semaphore doesn't.

     hm; it looks like phanpy still has some bugs that break keyboard shortcuts under some circumstances

     I'm also not much of a fan of the way it uses modal windows and blurs out everything else

     what I really want is for pinafore/semaphore to get the killer feature of collapsing down all the favs/boosts for a given post into a single line; if someone could add that to semaphore that'd be amazing

     I don't have the frontend chops to do this, but I'd happily sponsor someone else to!

     speaking of collapsing/grouping notifications in clients, it looks like someone has a work-in-progress implementation of this in Tusky! but it seems to have stalled out:

     I wonder if any mobile-savvy devs could help get that work across the line; this is basically my only complaint about an otherwise-perfect client
