   @bob indeed, the precious snowflakes fear the masses, whether landless peasants seeking basic social justice or those who do not wish to see human extinction from climate change. On Easter island elites proved they are willing to imperil everyone to cut down one tree more. And, combined with capitalism, the invisible hand always wore an iron gauntlet.

     It's not that climate change is entirely responsible for the rise of fascism, but it does literally and figuratively turn up the heat on existing issues in a manner where elites are pressured. And the usual response of pressure on elites is some version of despotic rule.
