   @mattly while I agree they don't accomplish much for you and I, the alternative of letting companies get away without any punishment at all seems much worse

   granted, the cost of the settlement is very rarely proportionate to the profit they made by breaking the law in the first place, but hey it's better than $0

     @mattly I was in a class action suit against devry university. They were found to have used deceptive practices, fraudulent in how they portrayed how much you'd owe in student loans.

     I got the equivalent of the interest on one student loan payment.

     @mattly huh, I've never seen anything like that before; most of the ones I get notified about are due to gross negligence in security practices or blatant lies
