During the first season of Foundation I couldn't decide whether I loved or hated it but now that I'm getting caught up on the second I think I'm leaning towards hate

@julieofthespirits Spent so long loving the visuals and loving the cast and loving the pacing that it took me a while to figure out that I just hate the story: as a narrative, as a philosophy, as a social critique, as an aspirational vision, however you slice it — bleah. It’s just…wrong.

@julieofthespirits I never read the books, and there was something deeply disturbing about the series. It seems to posit that instead of royalty, we should have a secret authoritarianism of the brilliant, who have ethical license to control and manipulate because they are infallible, or…something? But apparently that’s not the books?

@inthehands it's beautifully done and it betrays the whole message of the books - I'm fine with them making changes and doing a somewhat loose adaptation (and I liked some of the changes! like the genetic dynasty) but trying to make individual destinies important again in a story that should be about greater historical forces is just wrong

@inthehands how would asimov have written the story of two girls stranded on a water planet in psychohistorical terms? as something completely unimportant. they die and the universe never notices

@inthehands @julieofthespirits in the books it is the central dilemma
