   One of childhood’s great disappointments was finding out that walkie talkies only worked over like 200 metres, had to be left on at all times, and would drain a massively expensive set of 1980s batteries in 45 minutes or so.

     Another disappointment was my GI Joe helipack.
     A little helicopter backpack.
     Christmas morning my dad puts the batteries in, turns it on, holds it for a second with an unconvinced look on his face and lets it go.
     Straight to the floor.
     A read of the instructions revealed that to rotating blades were a hoax and that you had to string up a zipline for the thing to fake flying on….

     That's an obstacle overcome in my youth.
     Learnt using a 9v DC supply would keep it on 24/7. Mine could pick up Brisbane Yellow Cabs.
     Fun times.
