They're not supporting trump per se. They are poor and desperate and have been lied to about why they are poor and desperate. They vote for the robber barons who have essentially enslaved them because they have been told if they don't things will get worse.

Sure, there are some diehard white nationalist christo fascists. But most people are just ordinary folks who got left behind by the high tech educated world.

@shekinahcancook @therobburgessshow I’m not sure why anyone thinks Republicans supporting Trump can be reasoned out of a position that emotions got them into?

I’ll bet $100, or $1000 if you like, that the vast majority in attendance would quickly exit crying “Fake News!” on the way out, as they head home to hear want they want to hear from rightwing media.

What can Democrats realistically do between now and next November from stopping the Trump dictatorship from beginning? It seems like we're all just sleepwalking towards a cliff right now...

Here, at least, the democratic party is simply unwilling to do what it would take - regular town halls in all 117 red counties, so one a quarter each, maybe, in 2024. If they had three or four teams they could cluster them, or they could spread them out, either way.

Also, and this is very important - Clear 6th grade literacy level explanations of why voting for republicans is not in their own best interest. Real policy position handouts with substance, not slogans, in clear simple language. These need to be mailed to every household, again once a quarter or so, staggered with the town halls. They could also split up the material into four separate booklets.

And finally, they need to stop being afraid to say legislating religious beliefs is wrong & unconstitutional. And show why, with not just some "fringe" lgbtq or abortion cases - stuff that will resonate with a low education populace. Ky is like 41st or some such.

That's what needs to happen, and it isn't going to.

Thank you for all the thoughtful responses to this question. I would add:

      1. Republicans are voted out of power because they take it too far and folks in the middle finally get sick of it. Democrats get voted out because they are too timid to wield power effectively.

      2. More people voted for Trump in 2020 than in 2016, and I would wager even more vote for him in 2024. People like what Trump and the GOP are selling because it’s immediate. Democrats touting slow systemic change isn’t visceral.
