A pair of female figures in traditional kimono and geta hold bamboo umbrellas over their heads as they walk up a path cleared in the snow, heading toward Hie Jinja. On either side of the temple visitors, low wooden fencing surrounds tall robust pine trees, their branches loaded up with snow. A tall leafless tree reaches out over the path ahead, its bare branches coated with frost and snow. Another pair of figures - an adult carrying a bamboo umbrella accompanying a small child - are just entering the red-lacquered temple building. The roof of the temple is covered in fresh snow, and large snowflakes continue to fall from a grey, overcast sky
