   thinking about adding a note to my blog at the bottom to identify users who don't have an ad blocker installed to encourage them to adopt more sanitary browsing habits; anyone got a good snippet for detecting that?

   (my JS knowledge could best be summed up as "slim to none" and I'm not going to use npm/yarn for this)

     also it'd be nice if there were a good summary I could link to of why, ideally from a respectable-looking source

     the one I found from Mozilla is ... Real Bad; it says "buyer beware. Some of your favorite newspapers and magazines rely on advertising. Too many people blocking their ads could put them out of business." plus doesn't even mention ublock origin

     oh dang this wordpress plugin for this even has sample code you can use to adapt it to non-wordpress sites; very handy!

     ended up going with this wording using the list of classes recommended by the wordpress plugin, live now on https://technomancy.us

     I have a lot of thoughts about how user-empowering software can help people, but most of the changes we talk about are a hard sell due to network effects; people aren't going to just change up their operating system or social network without having a really good reason AND a lot of free time

     but installing an ad blocker? that's some low-hanging fruit right there! everyone can intuitively understand why it's worth doing, and it's really easy to do

     let's see more advocacy of that instead of "ACTUALLY you should be using GNU/Linux to maximize your freedom because [...]"

     @paulmwatson I mean that everyone can understand it when they're presented with the argument, compared to the more abstract arguments of transparency and free software you see about most open source programs
