   @ezio @tomo They had plenty of reasonable reasons on the dev side to do it (imposition of DRM, raising specs floor to allow integration of more inefficient stuff like the shell rewrite in WebView2), security is just the fig leaf they decided to sell it to the public with.

     that sounds like a highly cursed version of a unikernel/some other sort of research kernel that is mainly meant to run as batch

     @zardoz03 @ezio @tomo kind of, it's alike to a unikernel in that applications are linked against it, but all the marshalling stuff actually happens in user space on top of a host operating system. the main productization of this research has been sql server for linux.
