    The overwhelming majority, though slightly less overwhelming on the non-native side, distinguishes them the same way I do:

    recreation (1) is pronounced reh-creation, I assume because it was constructed long enough ago and has drifted to become a word of its own.

    re-creation (2) is pronounced ree-creation, because it's a fresh composite word that simply has the meaning of its components.

    The reason I asked was because a youtuber that sounded like a native speaker said something like "X is a reh-creation of Y", so I got curious if there's a region that does this.

      One native speaker voted that they're pronounced the same. If you're up for talking about it, I'd love to hear where you're from! And what your thoughts are on this?

      @clacke Native speaker (from NE London).

      recreation -> rek-reation. I.e., the 'c' has drifted into the first syllable over the millennia. Perhaps quite recently as maybe this is a US/UK thing???

      re-creation -> ree-creation.

      @edavies I think that's what people mean with reh-creation too. It's what I mean with it. I don't think people are doing an aspirated k. It's not a US/UK thing, native speakers are 98.8% in agreement.

      @penguin42 I'm guessing that'd be because nobody on your server follows my alt on fedia, so it saw no reason to redistribute the final result to your server.

      Would be nice if anyone who voted would get it sent to them.

      @clacke Hmm now I'm confused since I only see my vote on that vote; a problem I've not seen before.
