    How well do multiple single user instances scale vs one instance with multiple users? In other words, what % efficiency loss is there for 4, 8, 16, etc single user instances on one box, vs a single instance of 4, 8, 16, etc users?

    @p you might know this, what with cofespace and all.

      @bot @p @parker

      Fedi is semi-decentralized, meaning that we attach to instances/nodes for hosting in the small.

      Urbit aims to be fully destandardized: you have content that you publish from your own node, and other nodes invoke that content as they need it.

      @amerika @bot More important, it's impossible for normies to understand, which keeps them away, which is a good thing. And planets normally costing a small fee keeps down spam.

      No. The planets cost a small fee to keep jeets and ultra-poors from spamming the network. But after that there's no fees, and again, you can get one for free.

      Ok but it still costs money to do things, doesn't it?

      @parker @p

      We could go full Urbit: everyone runs their own instance, and mirrors the data of every other use that they have not explicitly blocked for being spam.

      Or more generally speaking, what is the ideal instance size? >1 since setting up an instance is a lot of effort to just serve one person. But also less than some threshold at which governing it becomes a nightmare, or cohesiveness impossible.
