   The proper response to “let us get married” would have been:
   Sure, in fact let’s get government completely out of marriage altogether and let private individuals enter into whatever contracts they wish.

   Instead it just allowed them into an already consolidated power structure.

   The derivative of the slippery slope is always the centralized power that exists to be captured.

     Scotus should have striken, not rewritten, the Iowa marriage law. They are not a legislature. Their authority is to interpret and/or strike. Full stop.

     It all started in the 1820s when democrats created marriage licenses because they wanted to prevent miscegenation. They made marriage a state institution, and look where we are now.

     As a gay (but not a contemporary retard like many of my peers), I fully support civil unions for all, gay and straight. Making marriage a government institution was a mistake, but if we can't undo it now, we can at least make it more neutral.
