Among the important ideas Langdon Winner has introduced is the notion of technology "regimes," expanding our definition of #technology beyond the artifact to include the economic, political, ecological, infrastructural scaffolds that make each artifact possible. The politics of sugar and colonialism, the mining of aluminum and energy that goes into creating metal cans, the politics and economics of water are all inextricably involved in a simple can of cola -- the "regime" of a can of cola.
