@Moon I don't like wanna badmouth Macs. I know they are nicely built and such. but it seems each week you have more technical issues with it. wouldn't a Linux install on the Mac be less of a bother?
depends. Laptops are kind of crap often, especially around hinge. Linux install is questionable since some hardware lacks drivers and some stuff might be kind of crappy. I possibly had the best possible linux on mac experience - macbook pro 2013, everything worked except the webcam (easily fixable by using external webcam, not like i need it constantly), and i had to use it in like 1080 resolution despite screen being 4K because the fucking mouse cursor (and everything else) would lag at retina™️ resolution.
I geniunely used that macbook with Mac OS X for a year before I gave up on it and no amount of indoctrination by a macfag friend helped me stay.
@kaia I bought it because my Linux System76 laptop started deteriorating rapidly. It got to the point where I was having trouble using it and I needed a machine for work. All my coworkers have Macs and highly recommended them to me. I decided I needed to just buy really high quality hardware and suck it up about the OS.
It's a tradeoff because it does certain other things really well. I miss my Linux laptop but certain quality of life things like multi monitor support work very well.
I just got two longstanding problems on the Mac fixed, wireguard and ssh-agent had problems but I figured them both out and it's a relief.
Nevertheless, as soon as Linux runs correctly on it, I'll run Linux.
@hj@kaia The build quality on this Macbook Pro easily exceeds anything else I have ever seen or used. It is almost offensive to me when people say it's no good, I literally cannot understand that opinion.
Linux doesn't work on this Mac and it won't soon, Asahi is targeting the M1 only and this is an M2 Pro.
@Moon@kaia >The build quality on this Macbook Pro easily exceeds anything else I have ever seen or used.
tbh it's quite similar to a person who ever used 4$ earbuds (or earbuds bundled with other devices) finally buying half-decent over-ear headphones and saying they're the best thing ever.

probably a bit exaggerated with "no good", but apple deliberately makes design choices so their shit breaks faster and they won't give you an option to fix it reasonably.
