     You could also initially expose to tech that we use around these parts (pleroma, invidious, xmpp, etc) even before they start socializing with other kids and start using whatever corporate abomination becomes dominant a couple years from now.
     Let them build some tolerances.

     Eh, I think this side of the fedi is far more balanced than pretty much anywhere else online.
     People just feel more comfortable to express their mental illness here, the average normie is far more deranged.

What remains is that, ironically, old unsanitized Internet was ironically a better place for a kid to hang out than the modern internet that sprinkles all its filth with glitter. I'd rather my kid read Dramatica than play Roblox minigames with 30 year old she/theys.

     Exactly.
     And just like the old internet, even though an outsider was unable to distinguish between the safe parts and the horrible parts, the edgy parts were some of the safest places online. Just like the instances this side of the fedi are.

     You don't get to chose once it starts socializing with others. It'll use whatever its friends are using.
