@DaWoDerPfeffer @jameshamilton @RustyBertrand It just occurred to me that "laundry" may not bring up the same image for everyone. The laundry is a small room in its own right, 1.8m x 3.5m with the washer, dryer, benches, a sink, and cupboards. The cats are fed there, have their litter there, and their sleeping spaces up on top of the cupboards. They're quite happy there overnight, and have been known to put themselves to bed even when left with the run of the house.

The way out for my cats is through the laundry 🙂
But if locked in there at night, they still would not go out.Because here the night is the domain of other quite powerful nightly predators, who may be dangerous to and may attack house cats for being food competition in the area.
This night active animal in the picture is a Paradoxurus hermaphroditus Palm Civet (SchleichKatze), with a length of more than 1 metre and it doesn't play nice with others 😉

James Hamilton (jameshamilton@c.im)'s status on Tuesday, 12-Dec-2023 13:52:00 JST James Hamilton @seldear @RustyBertrand Very much hoping your laundry has access to outdoors. We put our cat, Jasper, out. The one night I let him sleep in (when the family were all away) I didn’t get any sleep. 😟
