Can we just casually talk about how mind boggling #Wikipedia is as a concept nowadays?

We're living in a world where knowledge and the infrastructure it runs on is aggressively monetized.

And out here, like a microcosm of the old web, is a wiki that's not run by a profit incentive that has created a repository on human knowledge.

And it has its own mini-culture based on that community from community awards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Awards
    to injokes.

    In no particular order,

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_bite_the_newbies
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Assume_bad_faith
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Why_not_create_an_account%3F

And that's ignoring the other super useful projects they maintain, like Wiktionary, which provides a free multilingual dictionary that often includes slang and other terms that wouldn't be in a normal dictionary and, as I'm typing this, my feed shows they're just launching another project.

Just amazing how this still exists despite how much the internet changed.

      Wikipedia:Awards
A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon. – Napoleon The Wikipedia Awards comprise the honour system of Wikipedia. Many of them are considered part of the Kindness Campaign and are meant to promote Civility and WikiLove throughout Wikipedia. Traditionally, those considered of the highest esteem are those bestowed honoris causa personally by Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia. Ordered by number of inductees, these are the Order of the Day (5), founded in 2001, followed by Wikimedian of the Year (7), founded in 2011. Participators of the Wikipedia community may reward vigorous Wikipedia contributors for their hard work and due diligence by awarding them a fitting barnstar, or other award. In addition to these virtual awards honour system, editors may nominate someone to receive a gift in the mail as Wikipedia:Merchandise giveaways from the Wikimedia Foundation. If you have questions, WikiProject Wikipedia Awards is a group of volunteers who help guide these pages. ...

Wikipedia:No climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spider-Man
Sometimes even the coolest of editors become involved in content disputes. These may become heated, or degenerate into incivility and revert wars, and typically result in protection on the Wrong Version by a passing administrator. Where the issues are of paramount importance, editors may be tempted to climb the Reichstag building dressed as Spider-Man to promote their cause. This is not only strongly discouraged but a blockable offense, and climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spider-Man will result in a complete and utter block from editing Wikipedia. This is intended to stop content disputes from escalating to the extent of scaling public buildings dressed as popular comic book characters. Note that climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spider-Man is an absolute limit — not an entitlement! Users scaling any public building dressed as any popular comic book character may be blocked for disrupting Wikipedia to make a really stupid point. Even threatening...

      Wikipedia:Please bite the newbies
Wikipedia always has lots of newcomers that drive you up the wall. We must be extremely hostile to them and always assume that they want to destroy our precious wiki in order to have them understand the true meaning of Wikipedia. New members often seem all sweetness and light at first, but most turn out to be vandals and bad-faith editors at the end. Therefore, it is very important to assume bad faith and bite them. Hard. So if you see a newcomer do ANYTHING remotely wrong, go ahead and bite their damn ass. In general, a newbie is an editor who joined Wikipedia this very moment. However, some say that any Wikipedia member that joined after 2001 is a newbie. Therefore, we must learn to bite each other and even ourselves – even if you have been editing Wikipedia since Jimbo Wales. Assume bad faith Use very strong words Confuse them with Wikipedia jargon Revert their edits, even if they are constructive (make sure to use...

      Wikipedia:Assume bad faith
Here are a few things that, if you ever find yourself thinking them, are probably signs that you should take some time off away from edit wars, or at the very least, a nice cup of tea and a sit down. Or walk the dog if you're more of an outdoorsy type. It may also help to remember the maxim "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you." If an admin has done something that you disagree with, such as removing a typo in your post or deleting a page that you don't want deleted, they must be a vandal who has taken the time to become an admin so they can troll you. Make sure to send an ALL-CAPS SCREAMING EMAIL to the Wikimedia Foundation. They will probably respond in a manner that you didn't want them to, or not at all. That's because they are in league with the rogue admin. In that case, hack their accounts and take over Wikipedia. If you can't hack them, sue them. Legal threats are never not allowed! Additionally consider following the BOLD, Revert, Revert, Revert cycle. If all else fails, consider climbing the Reichstag dressed...
