   As t’is the season if you’re out at a party and someone says they don’t drink, don’t ask why. Not because it’s intrusive, but because IT WON’T BE A FUN STORY TO GET THE PARTY STARTED.

   Most of the time the reasons broadly fall into
   1. “don’t like/Religious reasons”
   2. “I didn’t want to die/nearly killed someone”
   3. “I wanted my kids back”

   It’s just not worth the social hit to the mood

     Umm, no; “because it’s intrusive” is perfectly sufficient.

     4. Random health reason that ruins the enjoyment (e.g. peptic ulcers since childhood.)
