I haven't had any major issues with it in a while on Gajim and Conversations. I'll get a failure to send message once in a blue moon but that's about it. -

Pleroma-tan (kirby@lab.nyanide.com)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 00:56:10 JST Pleroma-tan @Hyolobrika @dushman @Stellar that's true but do you realize how many people use discord for private communications? Do you remember when that was encrypted?
And for group chats it's just a massive pain to get set up for everyone so it's better to leave it unencrypted anyway -

You can run a TLS only server so that's not even true. Most don't even accept plaintext connections anymore. -

Lina Inver?e (lina@eientei.org)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 00:57:17 JST Lina Inver?e @kirby @dushman @Stellar the only downside to xmpp is that most big servers require outright unnecessary certificates and authentications measures as "spam prevention" or some shit and therefore it's better to selfhost shit or ask someone you can trust to do it, at least that way you can be certain that there won't be issues with contacting your friends In conversation permalink -

I would set up ejabberd but that's too big for my use case + documentation was lacking last I checked and prosody has the worst documentation I have ever seen
