CJ ENM's #TVING and SK Square's #Wavve signed an MOU for merging their #OTT platforms, with a combined 9 milion plus subscribers.
I also think this is a response on #Twitch pulling out from #Korea and #Naver launching their own OTT service.

@r_c_ Yeah, I think that includes Disney+ and Netflix. They're practically taking the OTT space in Korea, as well as abroad.
Abroad, Viki and Viu, along with Netflix and Disney+ are dominating the OTT for K-drama.
TVING has been trying to get a chunk of the foreign market by partnering with local mobile operators (for example) to offer free access, but still, they're not making progress.
I think if they can combine their platforms and learn from it, they'll be able to find a place in the global market as well, instead of giving out Rights to air to competitors.
@youronlyone seems to be a dead link. Is it also a response to foreign OTT services like Naver and Disney+?
@r_c_ True. Mobile operators are not good partners. They only promote if there's a running deal, otherwise the foreign company is left to alone. Or, they restrict access within the operator's app, which limits access.
Hmm, I think TVN did that here in the Philippines, and people just continued to watch via Viu or Viki, worst, through unlicensed OTT. 😅 I mean, can't blame the public when it's only available through the operator's mobile app (and it's slow too!)
Yep, I hope the can do it right. We need options, and it is healthy too. We can't let the big names like Netflix and Disney+ dominating the OTT global market. Sooner or later, they'll control the subscription pricing. (I was actually surprised Disney+ stuck with their current pricing for Asia instead of matching Netflix's, and it still worked for them. No wonder Netflix is doing its best to increase prices.)
@youronlyone I hope they get it right, there was a Warner sponsored platform that went up against Viki prior to Netflix getting 비밀의 숲 but that was too early, the product mix was wrong (too much romance + comedy that didn't as travel) and wasn't promoted well enough. Mobile operators aren't the right partners in a lot of markets
