   We are drastically overeducating people. Especially women. University graduates (people who produce academic output) should be like 1-2% of the population.

     @fuknukl 99% of women in gender studies are there because they've been brainwashed to thinking that university study is a unqualified good. 1% are legitimate scholars, even if it is a bullshit area of study. They still might come up with something useful, you never know.

     educational institutions should be about furthering the sum of human knowledge. They should be elite. They should only contain people who further this aim.

     They are currently NOT that. Because we think everyone can go to university. NO, THEY CAN NOT. Just like not everyone can code. It takes a special kind of autist to write good code. And it takes a different kind of autist to be an academic.

     The elite that deserve an education are being underserved as a result.

     @Sophistifunk How about I phrase it this way. For the last 100 years, Universities have existed to produce the managerial class. They should exist to produce the academic class.

     This has been bad for science, bad for society, bad for the academics, bad for the managerial class, and bad for the plebs that have to put up with the results. bad for humanity in general. All for a pyramid scheme to fleece people of their money called "education".
