     I did go rare mount hunting at some point, I just can't remember what ones I ended up with. I know that I got Invincible and Ashes of Al'ar.

     @Awoo @MK2boogaloo yea but those don't really force you to compete with other players in later expansions, you just grind them until you get the mount
     while tlpd and that one stone drake from cataclysm pretty much force you to camp the spawn until you get him

     @Awoo @MK2boogaloo maybe, there's a severe mount oversaturation, a friend of mine who played on retail back when wotlk and cataclysm were new recalls that proto-drakes were among the most prestigious mounts, and i think nobody would give a shit nowadays

     There is something like 400-500+ mounts in the game. I think the only mount that would raise an eyebrow now is the Bug from the AQ opening event. Even then people would bitch that it doesn't fly.

     The normalisation of flight speeds also screwed with things. Because only a handful of mounts could go 310% making them highly sought after and prized.

     WoW more or less died for me when they removed attunements from raids with the Sunwell Patch. Blizzard started handed scrubs epic gear on a silver platter.

     @Awoo @MK2boogaloo funny this is that there are wotlk realms with a progressive system, where you have to do previous tiers to access the next one, so you at least have to poke your head into each raid to get the best gear
