Should we nerf technology to protect otherwise obsolete or redundant jobs/occupations/livelihoods?

@limepeep @adiz change happens faster than retraining unfortunately.

@adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl I feel that our country should invest in reeducating people affected by changing technology, so they wouldn't just be left without the ability to earn work. Instead, we can keep them in the workforce where they can serve others, even after technology has taken over their old careers.

Sadly, I'm not sure if they'll consider that option, though.

@adiz @limepeep you can retrain people on new things in months if they have a good technical base but if we're talking about people in "less skilled" jobs then it's a problem. university is a bad fit yeah because they want you to do all kinds of other stuff and people that need to be retained just want to put food on the table.

@Moon@shitposter.club @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl Ehh? I'm not sure if that's the case. For instance, AI took decades to develop into the state it is now, and even then, there's still numerous aspects of this technology to improve on (self-driving problems, hallucinations) before it can truly surpass the skill level of many human workers. Education, on the other hand, usually takes four years if you're reaching for a Bachelor's Degree, and about one or two if you plan to get a certification or Associate's Degree.

@limepeep@kitty.social Half of those degrees are bullshit general education crap that has nothing to do with the actual degree material. So, technical degrees could be faster, even. @Moon@shitposter.club
