/me observes that "The Kid"'s WordPress blog which has some Perl scripts to copy replies from ActivityPub/FediVerse/Mastodon doesn't actually sync changes to those replies if the upstream message was revised.
Still, I guess it's not much different than posting directly to said blog, and also: not being able to edit a post.
/me wonders if the official WordPress ActivityPub/Mastodon support is as bad?
We had libre/free open source BBSes which had message editing functionality in the 1980s, Citadel BBSes' networking even had "anti-vortexing" (their nomenclature for message deduplication). Heck, The Mother of All Demos showed off collaborative networked editing in the 1960s. That kind of functionality, to me, is fundamental. To WordPress in 2023: apparently it's still unimplemented?
Maybe someday I won't be phased by how regressive some popularized technology is, but today is not that day.

  @amerika @teajaygrey Maybe they grew too much accustomed to canned solutions/libraries and just "trust" they are doing it right. Yeah, I know, the idea of Open Source software is that you can hack and solve those issue yourself, but then I wonder if most people are really comfortable with surfing through and insurmountably levels of poorly documented code.

  And it also teaches people how to conserve resources and not blost. It's been a while since I looked at it, but if I recall, games like The Legend Of Zelda and Metroid kept track of which items the player had by shifting bits.

  @Humpleupagus @caekislove @amerika @teajaygrey I remeber that @p used to share a blog post about how simple coding/hacking improved a coder's set of skills. It was something coding a game on an 8-bits processor with just shift registers and the like.

  Oh, yeah, most games back in the day did this by means of using individual bits as flags. It's less often individual bits nowadays, so you do some query against the global state-of-the-world object (Crunk is almost certainly more current on this than I am), but in principle they do the logic that way still: you go to the castle, who's standing outside? Depends on whether the massacre event has happened yet, and that event sets a flag. Same with items.

  I have a script I use to populate data into stansardized forms, like entire estate plans or corporate documents (.odt files), using data from a csv.
  
  One of the most important processes in that script is being able to determine the name of a column based on row data, e.g. find a row that equals x and return the column name.
  
  I looked at a few possible solutions. As far as I found, this was a pain using any standard database like postgres. It can be done, but it's far from elegant. I ended up using a combination of sed, awk, and a csv file to get the job done. The process is basically pull the row with sed (it relies on a counter to sequentially pull one row at a time - these tables aren't large, so it's easier this way), and then use awk count fields and return the field numbers for the matching data, and then again use sed to pull the first row odlf the csv, and awk to return the content of the field numbers returned from the previous process. It's simple and it works.
