Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 01-Dec-2023 02:37:36 JST Alex Gleason One more thing about Japan. The biggest culture shock I didn't expect is the crows. Those fuckers could kill a small child. They are seriously so huge you can't comprehend it until you see them in person. They rip open trash bags and create huge messes so they're widely considered pests. But I think it's taken for granted how awesome they are. - Ryan He likes this.

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 01-Dec-2023 02:48:54 JST Tapir @alex I'm assuming you're talking about Jungle Crows, although I think some parts of Japan has Carrion Crows too. Crows are exceptionally intelligent. They apparently are able to identify people and recognize when a person is generally nice to them vs when a person is generally mean to them, and they are able to communicate people's behaviors to other crows. They have been known to give their human friends gifts in the form of shiny objects (without promoting - corvids seem to find intrinsic value in shiny object), and may even group up to defend their human friends, or pester a non-friendly human.
So don't be mean to the crows lol
