The many knots in this image of M27, also known as the Dumbbell Nebula, have different shapes that range from fingers to isolated clouds. However, each of these contain as much mass as three Earths.

1. A small section of a planetary nebula. A bright orange cloud of matter cuts diagonally through the center of two differently colored regions, from the top left to the bottom right of the image. This orange cloud has knots of brown gas and dust within. The region to the left forms a triangle that is largely blue and contains more knots of gas and dust. The region to the right contains dense brown gas and dust. Pink and red stars are spread throughout the view.
