These #MMT people really believe you could just print the money. 🙄🤭 That's how invisible the violence already became that is needed to establish value.
I should really look away at these posts.

@blepharon @MMT @RichardJMurphy Nice reaction. You gave me a new point about MMT concerning why taxes are needed. I just read s.th. different from this Hickels guy.
Have to reevaluate everything now 🙄 crazy world.

Another function of taxation is redistributive. If money needs destroying, tax those with most money - their money is lazy, sitting in savings, overseas. If you want to generate spending in the real economy (the pockets of the low paid, whose money works hard, as they spend it (usually LOCALLY) because they NEED stuff to survive) then cut taxes for the lower paid. @RichardJMurphy 's blog is a great resource. https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/

@blepharon @MMT @RichardJMurphy yeah, so in principle I exactly said that just in different wording.

I'll go get my dictionary and look up some of your words.
You are wrong.
MMT does not say that.
MMT says a sovereign gov't with a central bank and a fiat currency creates money by spending it (investing in services/infrastructure) and destroys it by taxation. Taxation is a tool to control the money supply and hence, inflation. It rubbishes the idea of "public debt" as a fiction, gov't borrowing from itself. It also rejects the myth that taxation "pays for" government expenditure.
