     @kaia i'm not sure but i suspect it's because some scene releases of movies were split on multiple VCDs, so if you wanted something to play with subtitles you'd need to find subtitles that are split at the right moment

     @kaia I don't know. Sometime not that long ago I got fed up with not knowing what all of these choices on opensubs and started using subdl. This is a terminal program that automatically matches your subtitles to a file. So far (I don't really watch many movies) it never missed.

     @kaia high quality rips used to be split into multiple 650MB chunks that could be burned into separate CDs

     @lain @kaia My friend's dad had a modded DVD player that would play these. It was annoying swapping discs but it worked!
