   Ah, generalization. Mathematician Paul Erdős described how he wanted to die:

   “I want to be giving a lecture, finishing up an important proof on the blackboard, when someone in the audience shouts out, ‘What about the general case?’. I'll turn to the audience and smile, ‘I’ll leave that to the next generation,’ and then I'll keel over.”

     parts of my upset
     - GADTs would enable this work.
     - I have so much String specific work on a parser type that is NOT generic that I could leverage more if I dropped generics.
     - The generic implementation works. Pretty well, even. Just no self description fanciness. I could just let this go. (Could I, though? Really?)

     Did you know that making something complicated be *actually* generic is Not Always Straightforward? I forgot, I guess.
     I'm implementing self description so I have to reckon with the fact that not all symbols are comparable—for instance because maybe the thing I'm parsing isn't made of Characters—and I don't like it.
