Today is #TransgenderDayOfRemembrance, a reflective day to memorialise trans people who have been killed by transphobic violence. This year, 320 murders are remembered. Today we mourn the dead, and resolve to fight like hell for the living.
@vagina_museum That's a very broad generalisation about the future. (I know you said it to make the point that we should accept trans people now, and I totally agree.) We can imagine (do I have a dream?) a society where gender is of little or no significance, where people relate by virtue of character, not outward appearance, and families are of just people who want to raise children.
And if you're interested in reading more on trans history and culture, our Trans and Non-Binary collection is on sale until midnight tonight. Use the code TRANSISBEAUTIFUL for 10% off https://vaginamuseumshop.co.uk/collections/trans
There is another element to remembrance, too: remembering all of the histories that are unknown, hidden and erased. Trans people have always existed and will always exist. Sometimes these stories from the past are intentionally suppressed, and other times lost through lack of care or a lack of attention. If you look closely, you can find these histories all around us.
@hugh@vagina_museum okay, you are a deeply unserious person attempting to argue in bad faith about why you want an entire group of people to no longer exist. And using a straw man to accuse me of supporting rape.
You are neither as smart nor as rational as you think you are. So maybe go and have a think about why you’re experiencing this cognitive dissonance and your part in causing it.
