@hidden do you have free will?

@MercurialBuilding Why wouldn't you have it? It is true that we are pulled and pulled back and forth by innumerable forces; but you could stand up and walk into the country tonight and never return home, you could as surely as you could do anything else, but you won't. Not because you are a slave to forces beyond your imagination, but because it is not in accordance with you, with the wisdom and ability you have accumulated. That is why I see it as the wrong question. Why desire the ability to make any decision, equally weighted as if our mind is clear and directionless, when it would be better to have the ability to make the right decision? Focus on that, on becoming strong enough and wise enough for it, and you will find yourself growing into the role you wish to. And suddenly, when someone asks you if you have free will you will say "If you put a gun to my head, of course I do."

@MercurialBuilding If you put a gun to my head, I would say yes, certainly. Although I think it is the wrong question to ask

*How* do you have free will?
I mean I'd want to have it too but without descending into flowery philosophy I dunno how to justify it

@hidden I'm a slave to myself, and I exist in the universe.
Of course this doesn't tell me how one should act, but I'd think that's enough that free will doesn't exist
