     @fdrc_ff Instance owners can decide on their own, independently. But as far as the technology is concerned, #ActivityPub is a web standard and anyone can implement it.

     It was never the goal to replace any services, the goal has always been to bring down the walls (2005) and get back to how the Internet was originally, a #SocialWeb, a federated web (2008 fediverse).

     @rom True. Like FB, they once connected FB Messenger to #XMPP only to disconnect a few years later just because they can't get what they want.
