   @shinmera Federation is probably the absolute worst thing for anybody censorious. You can shut people out, but you can't really shut them up. Defederating people and instances doesn't make them go away, it just makes you and your users not see them. It's totally unlike Facebook and Twitter where a ban actually silences someone.

     I also realised that on feed-sites like this, blocking actually works as you'd like, which is interesting.

     On forums or chats it doesn't, because it just leads to one-sided conversations, where unblocked people are responding to the blocked people and you have no idea what's going on.
