   TIL: The Beamer LaTeX document class for presentation slides and slideshow effects really gets its name from the German word "Beamer", a very popular German pseudo-anglicism for "video projector".

     @johl this has been proven false. It was in fact modeled by the Corporate Design of BMW, whose cars are colloquially known in the US as Beamers.
