     The good news is that he's running as a Libertarian in a district where the incumbent Republican is retiring. Thus the next ballot is likely to be:

     Famous felon Shaman (L)
     Little known Republican (R)
     Little known Democrat (D)

     If the Shaman and the Republican split the right wing extremist☆ voters, there's a much better chance that the Democrat will sweep liberal voters and "I used to be a Republican until the party went crazy" voters.

     Bonus: unless he satisfies Arizona's requirements for restoration of voting rights for felons, Shaman can't vote for himself. (Who else might be in that position next election?)

     ☆ Extremist because we know that the Republican nominee will be a wingnut, because that's how Arizona Republican primaries roll these days.
