@micahflee@chybnej the USA ignores international law all the time. It's not our law, we don't have to follow it. Are there any exceptions to this baked into the constitution or any ... Supreme Court rulings to back this up?
This seems like a waste of time and money unless I'm missing something
“Under international law, the United States has a duty to take all measures available to it to prevent a genocide. Yet, Defendants have repeatedly refused to use their obvious and considerable influence to set conditions or place limits on Israel’s massive bombing and total siege of Gaza,” the lawsuit reads.
“Despite escalating evidence of Israeli policies directed at inflicting mass harm to the Palestinian population in Gaza,” the Biden administration has opposed “a life-saving cease-fire and lifting of the siege, even vetoing United Nations measures calling for a ceasefire,” the lawsuit continues. “Instead, their actions to fund, arm, and endorse Israel’s mass and devastating bombing campaign and total siege of the Palestinians in Gaza constitutes a failure to prevent an unfolding genocide and complicity in its development.”
It sounds like you're referring to members of Hamas, as opposed to "Palestinians" in general.
I absolutely agree that members of Hamas, especially leadership, should be sued or otherwise face charges for their crimes. But not "Palestinians", as that is an ethnic group
@micahflee those supporting hamas of course. Like those which let it build their bases in civilian infrastructure object. Those providing their children to their staff, those smuggling weapons for them, etc.
@chybnej Also, you "don't see Palestinians are distinguishing themselves from Hamas"? What?
I'm not sure if you're aware, but if one person from an ethnic group commits a crime, others from that same group aren't responsible for it. So if a white person murders a black person, other white people aren't responsible for that crime.
@chybnej uh, it says nothing about Hamas because they're not suing Hamas. This is specifically a lawsuit about the US failing in its legal obligation to prevent genocide
@micahflee it says nothing about Hamas at all though. So to me it sounds like they are ok with Hamas killing israely people, they just don't like when someone doesn't stop israely forces to retaliate. Note - i totally don't support Nataneahu and consider he should bear responsibility for his crimes, as for political corruption so for war crimes. Nevetheless I don't see Palestinians are distinguishing themselves from Hamas.
@micahflee and what about if many people from etnic group? What if many people from many etnic groups in the name of national group? That's called a war, that's what russia is doing, and according to your logic russians are innocent for making a war against ukraine. Because they as national group do not bear responsibility for a war of agression their nation is doing against other nation.
