I'm suggesting that the problem is that most 'journalists' nowadays don't even feign to not have an extreme bias on topics that they report on. So it's not that they are embedding themselves. They are part of a group or ideology, and have been chosen to be the journo. So the entire premise of ohh nooo journos are dying is silly. They have cost themselves that superpower.
"We had reliable intelligence that there was a turrist under there, and that the journalists and civilians were sympathetic to the opposition forces, so its all good".
Just because a journalist or civilian may have their own opinions doesn't make them a defacto militant. Its just another excuse to justify indiscriminate tactics used in wars on "terrorists".
How long before the label and tactics are applied to "maga extremists"?
Its not uncommon for journalists to embed in conflict zones. They take on the risk, sure, but are generally recognized as observers, and precautions are taken. Its no secret that the past month has been the most deadly in journalist death toll. Maybe theyre all antifa? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67350709 The only difference is the guise of "mighta maybe been a turrist in there", as the most protected group does the terrorizing ("terrorism" is subjective)
He was reporting last week at a refugee camp, and had taken all the press gear off cause he said it was just a "costume", and wouldnt help since theyre (Israel) bombing the shit out of them.
@MtnStateNomad if he's press wouldn't he be doing interviews, not getting interviewed?
But all that aside, considering the tactics of folks like antifa abusing the premise of press in volatile spaces & the nature of corporate press in general, it should be assumed all press are combatants.
