@shebang total surveillance does terrible things to the human psyche, everybody would come out worse than they went in. Like, moreso.
Plus, you're not supposed to talk about it but most americans think all the raping and bashings is part of the punishment and don't really want it to stop.
@shebang Yeah I know what you're saying, and I'm saying that a) the surveillance is worse for people than you think it is, and b) the voters also think the rapes are worse, and that's how they like it.
@Sophistifunk That's my point, I think the surveillance is less bad than the rape and beatings. We've got full on surveillance societies here already, the parts of the UK and especially in China you are watched all the time and things "seem" to be rolling on.
But subjecting people who are already most likely downtrodden, disillusioned and disenfranchised to the extreme to a constant stream of all kinds of violent depravity HAS to be much worse than "mere" surveillance.
@shebang@Sophistifunk "Bentham conceived the basic plan as being equally applicable to hospitals, schools, sanatoriums, and asylums." kind of a interesting grouping, healing, learning and mental illness.
A) I highly, highly doubt this has much truth in it. I'd love to see a study on this, would you rather be watched or raped? How about we interview prison rape victims and see how they feel about it.
B) I think by now we've established that voters are retards and democracy is even more retarded.
