So, one of the things we're doing with the in-progress redesign of the Autogram web site (and the new version of my personal site) is taking some of the meatier talks and presentations we've done over the years and building them into web-friendlier content for a wider audience.
Of course, that meant building out a Keynote Data Extraction Pipeline…

Behind the scenes, the ‘Keynote' class is just a convenience wrapper around a pile of individual Applescript commands being hurled at Keynote.app; wrapping it in JS code lets us integrate it to the rest of our content pipeline.

For talks where we don't have detailed "speaking notes" already in the deck itself, we're piping talk videos through whisper.ai and manually popping 'slide break' markers into its timestamped output; that gets rolled into the same deck.json file we build from Keynote.

Among other things, this also lets us intelligently generate alt text from the actual title and body of the slide itself — separate from the speaker notes. While it's not perfect, it's a huge boost over manually exporting, copying, pasting, and fussing with Every. Slide. Of. Every. Talk.

The Keynote class there is doing all the heavy lifting (and I'm in the process of refactoring it so it's less brittle and reliant on the frontmost window) — there are lots of little tweaks to be made but it's been helping so far!

@zachleat (oh, crap, I forgot to mention that the whole thing also kind of falls apart in decks that depend on lots of in-slide animation; I’ve moved to a lot of magic move tricks for complex stuff just because it makes exports so much less tangled…)
