The North only benefits from being the lesser evil in that war (aka choosing wage slavery over chattel slavery), and oftentimes, they have also shown themselves to also be violent racists. For example, the Native Americans were treated like shit after the Civil War, and there was one anti-Black race riot in New York City in 1863.
P.S.: That event was initially just, since rich men being allowed to pay themselves out of the draft will always be fucking stupid, but it became about race, unfortunately. Honestly, that's why it's nice to see many socialists also being socially progressive (the working class must stick together, no matter what).
@poppyart@berserker.town The war was fought over preservation of the Union, ultimately. Slavery was a secondary concern. The Union was willing early on to codify slavery in exchange for reunification and termination of conflict/cessation. @moffintosh@berserker.town
