   okay it turns out that i can DRAG the modal downward and that somehow causes it to collapse back into the button it came from

   i know i say this once a month or so, but: absolutely bananas behavior

     lmao there is literally no way to close either the modal dialog or the entire window, and the “Quit" option in the Dock just refuses because of the modal.
